Zendesk vs Salesforce for customer service, and what Agentforce costs
Zendesk is a helpdesk. Salesforce is a CRM platform, and Service Cloud is its customer service product, so that’s what this page sets against Zendesk. Both now sell an AI agent that answers customers. Zendesk includes its AI agents on every plan and bills them per resolution. Salesforce sells Agentforce from Service Cloud’s Core edition up, through its sales team, at $2 a conversation or in credits per action. Here’s what each one costs, what it counts and where it starts. The third column is Deacon, an AI customer support agent for founders who answer support themselves. It has a free plan, and it needs no card.

How Zendesk and Salesforce bill for the AI
Zendesk puts the AI on every plan and bills what it resolves
Zendesk’s AI agents come with every plan, Support Team included, and it bills them by the automated resolution, a request settled without a person stepping in. Its pricing page includes 5 an agent a month on Support Team and Suite Team, 10 on Suite Growth and Suite Professional and 15 on Suite Enterprise, up to 10,000 a year. Its help centre describes newer resolution tiers that hold the allowance as money, $2, $5 or $10 an agent a month by plan, up to $5,000 a year, and have a language model check each finished conversation, so only a verified resolution counts. Past the allowance it’s $2.00 a resolution on pay as you go, or $1.50 bought in advance. The AI keeps answering by default and overage is billed monthly, unless you switch it off, which pauses the AI.
Salesforce sells Agentforce by the conversation or by the action
Agentforce for Service isn’t in Starter Suite or Pro Suite. You buy it on Core, at $195 a user a month, or Advanced, at $395, both billed yearly, and Max, at $550, includes it with limited credits. There are two meters, and Salesforce won’t run both in one org. Conversations are $2 each, and on web chat a conversation lasts until an anonymous visitor ends the chat, or 24 hours for a signed-in one, so it’s counted by the window rather than the outcome. Flex Credits are $500 per 100,000, and each action the agent takes, such as answering from your knowledge articles, uses 20 of them, or $0.10. The pricing page sends both to sales. Going past your Flex Credits carries no penalty, just your contracted rate, billed monthly in arrears.
The figures in these cards are from zendesk.com/pricing, Zendesk’s help centre, Service Cloud’s pricing, Agentforce’s pricing and Salesforce’s help on conversation billing, read on 23 September 2026. Zendesk AI pricing works through Zendesk’s side in full, with a month priced for one or two agents.
Salesforce’s cheapest service suite looks close to Zendesk’s. Starter Suite is $25 a user a month, billed monthly or yearly, against Zendesk’s Support Team at $19 an agent billed yearly, or $25 monthly. But Starter Suite’s AI is an assistant for your own staff, not an agent that answers customers, and web messaging starts on Pro Suite, at $100 a user a month billed yearly under a contract. For Agentforce you need Core, at $195. On Zendesk, the AI agents come with every plan, and chat on your site starts on Suite Team, at $55 an agent a month billed yearly, or $69 monthly.
Salesforce has a second agent, too. Its Help Agent, which it calls Casey, was announced in June 2026 for general availability that July, and is billed at $2 per resolution, with no charge when the customer gives negative feedback or asks for a person. Service Cloud’s Advanced edition lists it, and its price, like Agentforce’s, goes through sales.
Take 300 chats a month, by our arithmetic. On Agentforce conversations, each chat is one, so that’s $600, on top of Core seats. On Flex Credits it depends on the actions, and Salesforce’s own example, an order-status question answered in two actions, comes to $0.20, or $60 for 300. On Zendesk’s Suite Team, if the AI resolves 200 of the 300, the allowance covers a handful and the rest cost $2.00 each, close to $400. Salesforce can be the cheaper AI per chat, once you’re paying for the CRM underneath it.

Zendesk’s prices come from zendesk.com/pricing, read from the price data inside the page because it shows a UK visitor pounds. Salesforce’s come from its Service Cloud and Agentforce pricing pages, in US dollars. All were read on 23 September 2026, and the other pages used are listed at the end.
Which of the two suits your service team
Zendesk suits you if you want a support product that works as it comes, with its prices on the page. Suite Team brings messaging, live chat, social channels and voice into one workspace, and Suite Professional adds IVR phone menus, callbacks and skills-based routing. Its AI agents come with every plan, you can pay monthly, and its Salesforce integration lets a support team on Zendesk work alongside a sales team on Salesforce.
Salesforce suits you if your company already runs on its CRM and service should share the same records. Agentforce can do more than answer, such as looking up an order or booking an appointment, because it works inside the data your other teams keep. Core includes a help centre and Advanced adds the Help Agent. If you’re venture-backed, Launchpad offers free and discounted Salesforce products, though its page doesn’t publish the terms.
Both are built for service teams, and Salesforce for large ones, with annual contracts and a sales team between you and the price of the AI. If you’re a founder answering support yourself, neither was built with you in mind, and there’s a third option.
Deacon, when support is you and your docs
Most founders don’t need a service platform. They need the same few questions to stop landing in their inbox. Deacon answers them on your site in seconds, 24/7, from your own docs and in the language each customer writes in. You sign up yourself, add your docs and paste one script tag, or hand the install prompt to your coding agent. There’s no demo to book and no flows to build.
It won’t bluff. When your docs don’t cover a question, Deacon says it doesn’t know and asks for the visitor’s email, rather than guess and risk the kind of AI hallucination founders worry about. You’re emailed when a visitor leaves an address or asks for a person, and your reply from Deacon’s dashboard appears in their chat if it’s still open.
Then it learns from you. Every question your docs missed gets an Answer this button, and what you write becomes part of what Deacon knows, so it can answer the next person who asks. Save & check shows you the reply Deacon now gives and how many other open questions your answer covers, so it needs you a little less each time.
You also learn what customers need. Every conversation is saved and searchable by what visitors asked, and Topics group the questions about your product, count the people who asked and label most of them, for example as a feature ask, a bug report or a how-to. That’s on every plan, the free one included. The same script runs your website analytics, with visitors, sources, goals and funnels.
The price is on the page. Every feature is on every plan, the plans differ only in answers, knowledge, crawled pages and seats, and nothing is billed past a plan’s answers. No plan upgrades itself or shows a “powered by” line, and the free plan needs no card, has no end date and deletes nothing for inactivity.
