Chatbase pricing plans and what a credit buys

Chatbase pricing read on 25 September 2026, from the free plan to Pro, what a message credit buys on each model, and what a founder or a team of three pays.

Published

Chatbase pricing runs from a free plan to Pro at $500 a month. Free gives you 50 message credits a month for one member. Hobby is $40 a month for 700 credits, Standard is $150 for 4,000 and Pro is $500 for 15,000. Paid yearly, those three come to $32, $120 and $400 a month, 20% less. Enterprise is priced by Chatbase’s sales team. We read every figure on Chatbase’s pricing page and in its docs on 25 September 2026.

The figure to watch is the credit, because a credit isn’t a reply. Each reply your agent writes costs 1 to 6 credits, depending on the model it runs on, and a reply that uses an action can cost twice that. So Hobby’s 700 credits are 700 replies on Chatbase’s own Auto model, and 116 on the biggest models it offers.

Deacon is the product we make. It’s an AI customer support agent for founders who answer support themselves, and its plans count answers, one for each reply, on the same model on every plan. It answers your customers in seconds from your own docs and shows you what they’re stuck on and what they want next. There’s a free plan, and it needs no card.

The monthly prices are on the plan cards. The yearly ones appear when you switch the page to Yearly, where each plan reads as a monthly price billed annually, and Chatbase’s workspace docs put the saving at 20%. Hobby, Standard and Pro each start with a 7-day trial.

Training content counts the text Chatbase extracts from your files and pages, not the size of the files. A live handover to a person runs through the Helpdesk, which the plan cards list from Standard, and handing a chat over is an AI Action, which Free has none of.

What a Chatbase message credit buys

A credit is spent each time your agent asks a model for a reply, and the model sets how many. Chatbase’s model list charges 1 credit a reply for its own Auto model and the lighter models, and up to 6 for the largest. Here’s what each paid plan’s credits come to at each rate.

Free’s 50 credits are 50 replies at most. Actions cost more on any plan. An action lets the agent do something as it answers, such as book a meeting or hand the chat to a person, and Chatbase’s pricing FAQ says the agent “might make multiple requests to the AI model” to use one. Its own example is a booking that takes two requests, and so twice the credits.

Credits come back on the 1st of each calendar month, whenever you subscribed, and the ones you didn’t use don’t carry over. The Usage page in the dashboard shows the credits spent each day and how many each agent used. Botpress counts conversations rather than credits, and Chatbase vs Botpress sets the two meters side by side.

When your Chatbase credits run out

Your agent stops answering. Chatbase’s FAQ says it then shows visitors “This AI Agent is currently unavailable. If you are the owner, please check your account.” It stays that way until the credits renew on the 1st, or until you add more.

There are two ways to add them. You can move to a bigger plan, or you can switch on auto recharge, which adds credits at $40 for every 1,000 whenever your balance falls below a threshold you set. Recharged credits don’t expire, so the ones you don’t use carry into the next month, unlike the plan’s own.

On Free there’s no way to add credits mid-month. Chatbase’s workspace docs say “Free users must subscribe to a base plan before adding any add-ons”, so a free agent that runs dry waits for the 1st or for an upgrade.

Chatbase add-ons

Add-ons need a paid plan, and a recurring one is billed on the plan’s cycle, monthly with a monthly plan and yearly with a yearly one.

Auto recharge credits

What you get
Credits that don’t expire, added when your balance falls below a threshold you set

Extra agents

What you get
Another agent in the workspace, since each plan up to Pro includes one

Remove “Powered By Chatbase”

What you get
Chatbase’s branding taken off your widget and iframe

Extra members

Price
Not printed on the pricing page
What you get
A seat beyond the ones your plan includes, added from the dashboard

Custom domains

Enterprise only
What you get
Your own subdomain for the embed script and the agent’s link

Two rules in the workspace docs are easy to miss. Removing a teammate doesn’t lower what you pay for extra members, so you reduce the count yourself on the Plans page. And cancelling an add-on removes it straight away, with credit for the days left in the billing period.

What Chatbase costs a founder and a team of three

Here are two months, priced on three models. Each chat is taken as two replies, close to the 1.95 replies a conversation Deacon measured across 1,053 of its own. Auto recharge is priced per 1,000 credits, so we’ve counted it in lots of 1,000. The sums are ours, from Chatbase’s figures.

A founder with 300 chats a month sends 600 replies.

  1. On Auto, at 1 credit a reply, that’s 600 credits. Hobby’s 700 cover it, so the month is $40, or $32 billed yearly.
  2. On a 2-credit model it’s 1,200 credits. Hobby holds 700 and one recharge adds 1,000 for $40, so the month is $80.
  3. On a 3-credit model it’s 1,800 credits. Hobby holds 700, which leaves 1,100, so auto recharge runs twice for $80 and 900 credits carry over. The month is $120.

A team of three with 1,000 chats a month sends 2,000 replies. Hobby includes 2 members, so three people start on Standard, which includes 3.

  1. On Auto that’s 2,000 credits, well inside Standard’s 4,000. The month is $150, or $120 billed yearly.
  2. On a 2-credit model it’s 4,000 credits, every one Standard has. The month is still $150, or $120 billed yearly, and a busier month adds $40 for each 1,000 more.
  3. On a 3-credit model it’s 6,000 credits. Standard holds 4,000 and two recharges add 2,000 for $80, so the month is $230.

Chatbase, on Auto

The founder, 600 replies
Hobby, $40, or $32 billed yearly
The team of three, 2,000 replies
Standard, $150, or $120 billed yearly

Chatbase, on a 2-credit model

The founder, 600 replies
Hobby and one recharge, $80
The team of three, 2,000 replies
Standard, $150, or $120 billed yearly

Chatbase, on a 3-credit model

The founder, 600 replies
Hobby and two recharges, $120
The team of three, 2,000 replies
Standard and two recharges, $230

Deacon

The founder, 600 replies
Starter, $50, or $40 billed yearly
The team of three, 2,000 replies
Growth, $150, or $120 billed yearly

The model matters more than the plan on Chatbase. The founder’s bill triples between Auto and a 3-credit model without a single extra chat. What an AI chatbot costs prices one month of 1,000 questions on eleven tools, and shows what the same month needs from Chatbase’s credits.

Deacon, for founders who answer support themselves

A credit meter makes you choose between a better model and a longer month. Pick a stronger model and the same plan holds a third as many replies. And when the credits hit zero, the widget on your site tells customers the agent is unavailable until the month turns over or you pay for more.

Deacon counts answers instead. Every plan answers with the same model, so one answer is one reply on any plan, and nothing drains faster on a better model. Nothing is billed past your plan’s answers, and no plan upgrades itself. If a month’s answers run out, a visitor gets a short reply saying Deacon can’t look into that one right now and is asked for their email, unless they’ve left it already. You can still read and reply to every conversation, and every owner gets an email when the month reaches 80% and again at 100%.

You add one script tag and point Deacon at your docs, files or pasted text, and it answers your customers in seconds. When your content doesn’t cover a question, it says it doesn’t know rather than guessing, and asks for the visitor’s email. When they leave it or ask for a person, you get an email, and a reply you type in the dashboard appears in their chat while it’s open, under your first name and your company’s.

Every question your docs missed waits in the dashboard with an Answer this button. Write the answer, press Save & check, and Deacon shows you the reply it now gives. Each answer you write becomes part of what Deacon knows, so the more you answer, the less it needs you. Topics group what customers ask, count the people behind each question and label most of them, as a feature ask, a bug report or a how-to, so you can see what to fix and what to build next.

Every feature is on every plan, the free one included, and there’s no “powered by” line on any plan to pay to remove. Free is 50 answers a month for 1 seat, with no card, no end date and nothing deleted if you go quiet. Starter is $50 a month, or $40 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 answers a month and 3 seats. Growth is $150 a month, or $120 a month billed yearly, for 4,000 answers a month and 10 seats. The pricing page has the rest.

Questions about Chatbase pricing

Does Chatbase have a free plan?

Yes. Free gives you 50 message credits a month, 1 member, 1 agent and 1 MB of training content, with limited access to models and no AI Actions, so a free agent can’t hand a chat to a person. Chatbase’s pricing page says “AI agents get deleted after 14 days of inactivity on the free plan.” Free accounts can’t buy add-ons, so you can’t top up the credits or take the badge off. Free AI chatbots for your website sets its free plan beside others.

What happens when Chatbase runs out of credits?

The agent stops answering and shows visitors “This AI Agent is currently unavailable. If you are the owner, please check your account.” The plan’s credits renew on the 1st of each month. On a paid plan, auto recharge at $40 per 1,000 credits keeps the agent answering, or you can move to a bigger plan.

Is there a yearly discount on Chatbase?

Yes, 20%. Hobby is $384 a year, which the page shows as $32 a month, Standard $1,440 a year, or $120 a month, and Pro $4,800 a year, or $400 a month. Recurring add-ons on a yearly plan are billed yearly as well.

Does Chatbase charge per seat?

Not for the members a plan includes, which are 1 on Free, 2 on Hobby, 3 on Standard and 5 on Pro. Past that, an extra member is an add-on bought in the dashboard. If you remove someone, what you pay for extra members stays the same until you lower the count on the Plans page.

Can I downgrade or cancel Chatbase?

Yes. By Chatbase’s workspace docs, a downgrade takes effect straight away, and the unused part of your old plan becomes a credit against future invoices. Cancelling stops the renewal, and the plan and its add-ons run to the end of the period you paid for before the account drops to Free.

How does Chatbase pricing compare with Tidio’s?

They charge for different things. Chatbase sells an AI agent in message credits. Tidio sells live chat by the conversations your team answers, with its AI agent, Lyro, priced by the conversation on top, from $39 a month for 50. Tidio pricing works through its plans the same way this page does, and Chatbase vs Tidio sets the two tools side by side.

Can Deacon replace Chatbase?

If what you need is an agent on your website that answers from your docs and hands you the rest, yes. Deacon doesn’t answer on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, email or the phone, though, and it takes no actions in other systems, so it won’t book a meeting or issue a refund. It also always declines questions about a visitor’s own account. Chatbase alternatives compares ten tools you could move to, with their free plans and prices.
