Crisp chat pricing, its four plans and Hugo’s bill

Crisp chat’s plans as priced on 25 September 2026, what a workspace includes, how Hugo’s AI credits are spent, and what a founder or small team pays.

Published

Crisp chat pricing is per workspace, not per seat. The free plan costs nothing for 2 seats. Mini is $45 a month, Essentials $95 and Plus $295, each for the whole workspace, with 4, 10 and 20 seats included. Hugo, Crisp’s AI agent, comes with every paid plan and spends a monthly allowance of AI credits, $5 on Mini, $25 on Essentials and $75 on Plus. Crisp publishes no yearly prices. We read every figure on Crisp’s pricing page and help centre on 25 September 2026, and it served us prices in US dollars.

The plan price stays still whatever your traffic. Hugo’s credits are the part that moves, and the “We run on Crisp” line only comes off on Plus.

Deacon is ours. It’s an AI customer support agent for founders who answer support themselves. It answers your customers in seconds from your own docs, shows you what they’re stuck on and what they want next, and has a free plan that needs no card.

The features are from the comparison table on Crisp’s pricing page. Any plan can be tried for 14 days with every feature and no card.

You can pay yearly, but there’s no yearly price to compare. Crisp’s yearly billing article says you switch a subscribed workspace to yearly in the app, the next renewal charges the whole year in advance, and a prepaid year can’t be refunded. It mentions no discount. Prices leave out VAT, which Crisp charges only in the EU, and not to a business that gives its VAT number.

What “per workspace” means on Crisp chat

A workspace is one shared inbox, and Crisp bills each one separately, not by website or by seat. So the price doesn’t move as teammates join, up to the seats your plan includes. A founder with three teammates pays the same $45 on Mini as a founder alone.

The seats are what push you up a plan. Crisp’s comparison table sells extra seats only on Plus, at $10 a month each, so a fifth person moves you from Mini to Essentials and an eleventh from Essentials to Plus. A workspace also connects one account on each messaging channel, such as one WhatsApp number or one Instagram, and the pricing FAQ says more costs extra.

If you run several products, Crisp’s multiple-workspace article says it can take 20% off each extra workspace once you have 3 or more paid ones on Essentials or Plus.

What Hugo costs on top of a Crisp chat plan

Hugo is included from Mini, so there’s no separate AI subscription. What you get is a monthly allowance of credits, counted in dollars, of $5 on Mini, $25 on Essentials and $75 on Plus, by Crisp’s Hugo billing article. The free plan has none, so its chat only answers when you do.

Credits are spent by the token, so a long conversation costs more than a short one. Crisp counts a Hugo conversation from the first message Hugo handles until it’s resolved, routed or escalated, and estimates a full one at “around $0.05 to $0.10 USD”. Message length, how much of your knowledge Hugo reads, the language and the AI model you choose all move it. The pricing page turns the three allowances into around 90, 450 and 1,350 automated conversations a month.

Live chats aren’t the only thing that spends credits. Testing and training Hugo use them, during a trial too, and Crisp’s Hugo troubleshooting article says chats in its Playground do as well. Workflows don’t. Credits reset on the 4th of each month, and unused credits don’t roll over.

When the credits run out, Hugo “stops answering automatically and incoming conversations are escalated to human operators until credits become available again”. To keep it answering, you switch on Pay-As-You-Go and set a spending limit, though it may stay unavailable until a trial ends. Crisp’s Hugo billing article gives no rate for it. Hugo’s own site, hugo.ai, estimates a bill as the plan plus pay-as-you-go at $0.05 a conversation past what the plan includes.

The plan also limits what Hugo can learn from. Crisp’s training article lets Mini import 1 website domain and 1 file, Essentials 3 domains and 5 files, and Plus 10 domains and 100 files. A crawl isn’t refreshed when your site changes, so you refresh it by hand.

Removing the “We run on Crisp” line

The “We run on Crisp” line shows in the chatbox and in emails to your visitors on every plan below Plus. Crisp’s branding article says removing it needs a paid Plus plan, at $295 a month. It isn’t removed during a trial, even when the Plus trial shows the feature as available. It goes once the first Plus payment has gone through, which can take up to 2 hours.

Crisp chat’s startup programme and other discounts

Crisp’s startup programme can take 30% off for a company that’s new to Crisp, has raised less than $1M and has existed for less than 3 years. It covers Essentials and Plus, not Mini. By our arithmetic, that makes Essentials $66.50 a month and Plus $206.50. The discount stays on the subscription while it remains eligible. You apply through Crisp’s live chat, with your website, a short description of the business and its registration certificate.

Non-profits get 50% off Essentials and Plus, and the pricing page offers students 50% off too. Customer support for startups sets Crisp’s programme beside the ones other support vendors run.

The team’s size barely matters until it passes a plan’s seats. Hugo’s traffic does. On Mini, 300 Hugo conversations add $10 to $25 to a $45 plan, and a founder who wants the badge gone pays for Plus at any volume.

Crisp’s pricing FAQ says it doesn’t bill by consumption because “Unlimited is peace of mind at the end of the month.” That holds for the chats your team answers. The ones Hugo answers are metered. There’s a wider look at how AI agents are priced in how much an AI chatbot costs.

Deacon, for the founder who answers support alone

Crisp is a shared inbox with a chat widget in front of it, built for a team that answers. Early on, that team is usually you, and every chat Hugo can’t take lands back in your inbox, including every one after its credits run out. Deacon is built for that founder.

You add one script tag and point Deacon at your docs, and it answers your customers in seconds, at any hour, in the language they write in. When your content doesn’t cover a question, it says it doesn’t know instead of guessing, and asks for the visitor’s email. You get an email when they leave it or ask for a person, and your reply from Deacon’s dashboard appears in their chat under your name while it’s still open.

Every question your docs didn’t cover waits in the dashboard with an Answer this button. Write the answer and press Save & check, and Deacon asks itself the question again and shows you the reply it now gives. Every answer you write becomes part of what Deacon knows, so it needs you less as it goes. Chats you try in the Playground never count against your plan.

Deacon also shows you what customers need, on every plan. Topics group the questions people ask, count the people asking and label most of them as a how-to, a bug report, a feature ask and so on, so you know what to fix and what to build next.

Every feature is on every plan, and the plans differ only in answers, knowledge, crawled pages and seats. Free is 50 answers a month and 1 seat, with no card, no end date and nothing deleted if you go quiet. Starter is $50 a month, or $40 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 answers a month and 3 seats. Growth is $150 a month, or $120 a month billed yearly, for 4,000 answers a month and 10 seats.

Nothing is billed past your plan’s answers, no plan upgrades itself, and every plan answers with the same model. There’s no “powered by” line on any plan, so there’s no badge to pay to remove.

Questions about Crisp chat pricing

Is Crisp chat free?

Crisp has a free plan for 2 seats, with the chat widget, a contact form, the shared inbox and the mobile apps, and it doesn’t end. It has no AI credits, so Hugo doesn’t answer on it. Crisp’s comparison table also leaves the widget’s colours and position, canned responses and full conversation history to Mini. If you’re weighing free chat you answer yourself, live chat software for your website compares the tools.

Does Crisp chat charge per seat?

No. Each plan is priced per workspace with its seats included, 2 on Free, 4 on Mini, 10 on Essentials and 20 on Plus. Only Plus sells extra seats, at $10 a month each. If per-seat pricing is what you’re trying to avoid, Crisp vs Intercom sets Crisp beside a helpdesk that charges for every seat.

Can I pay for Crisp chat yearly?

Yes, once you’ve subscribed. You switch in the app, the whole year is charged at the next renewal, and a prepaid year can’t be refunded. Crisp doesn’t publish a yearly price or a yearly discount, so ask its team what the year will cost before you switch.

How much does Hugo cost on Crisp chat?

Hugo comes with Mini, Essentials and Plus, with $5, $25 or $75 of credits a month. Crisp estimates a full Hugo conversation at $0.05 to $0.10, and its pricing page puts the credits at around 90, 450 and 1,350 conversations. Past that, Hugo stops and hands new chats to your team, unless you’ve switched on Pay-As-You-Go.

Does Crisp chat have a free trial?

Yes, 14 days on any plan, with every feature and no card. Hugo’s use during the trial spends credits, Pay-As-You-Go may stay off until the trial ends, and the “We run on Crisp” line stays on even on a Plus trial.

Can Deacon replace Crisp chat?

If what you need is the repeat questions answered on your site, yes. Deacon answers from your docs and brings you the chats that need a person, on every plan, the free one included. It isn’t a shared inbox, though. It has no email inbox, no WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS or phone, no ticketing, no integrations and no campaigns, and it never starts a conversation. Crisp chat alternatives compares nine other tools, and Tidio vs Crisp sets Crisp beside Tidio.
