Carrd chatbot for a one-page site, on Pro Standard

Carrd doesn’t make a chatbot, so a Carrd chatbot is another company’s code in an Embed element. Embeds need Pro Standard, at $19 a year, or a higher plan, so a free Carrd site or one on Pro Lite can’t run a chatbot at all. Which Carrd plan can run a chatbot

Carrd’s plans page lists three Pro plans on top of the free one, all billed by the year. Carrd’s Widget element covers Stripe, PayPal, Gumroad, Typeform and Facebook rather than chat, so a chatbot goes in through an Embed, and Carrd’s guide to custom code says embeds require Pro Standard or higher.

What the chatbots that support Carrd cost

Landbot and Asyntai both have Carrd pages that rank for “carrd chatbot”. Here’s what each gives you before you pay, from their pricing pages on 23 September 2026.

Landbot counts chats, and its free chats follow the flows you build rather than AI. Asyntai counts AI replies. Deacon counts answers, one per reply, and a conversation takes about 2 of them, so 50 answers covers about 25 conversations.

Where a chatbot’s code goes in Carrd

Carrd’s guide to custom code puts it in an Embed element. These are the steps for a chatbot, which should load on the whole site rather than in one spot.

1. Click Add Element, then Embed.
2. Set Type to Code and paste the chatbot’s snippet into Code.
3. Give it a Label you’ll recognise, such as Chat.
4. Set Style to Hidden, then choose Body End, which places the code just before the site’s closing </body> tag.
5. Publish the site.

The guide says an embed shows nothing in the builder, so look for the chat on your published site. A hidden embed sits outside the layout, and the guide suggests moving it somewhere out of your way, such as the very end of the site.

One page, split into sections

A Carrd site is a single page. Sections make it feel like several, and a link to one uses the part of the address after #, such as #pricing, as Carrd’s link types show. The page never reloads as a visitor moves between sections, so a chat they’ve opened stays open.

The address your visitors use

A Pro Standard site can be published to a carrd.co address, a premium address such as .crd.co, or a custom domain you own. A chatbot that runs only on the domains you allow needs the address your visitors actually use, and both if you’ve moved from one to the other.

Buttons and forms that run code, on Pro Plus

Carrd’s Advanced Settings, on Pro Plus, let an element run JavaScript when something happens to it. A button has On Click, a form has On Success, and a section break has On Open. That’s how a Help button can open a chat, or a sign-up can be counted as a goal.

What Deacon does on your Carrd site

People who land on a Carrd page want three things answered. What is it, what does it cost and when can I have it. If the page doesn’t say, most of them leave without asking, and the few who email you ask the same things again. Deacon answers them in seconds, 24/7, from your page and anything else you give it, in whatever language each visitor writes in.

When it doesn’t know, Deacon says so instead of guessing, and asks for the visitor’s email. On a waitlist page, that’s someone telling you what they need and how to reach them. If they leave an address, or ask for a person, you get an email. Reply from Deacon’s dashboard, and if they still have the chat open, your reply appears there under your name.

Then Deacon gets better. Every question your content didn’t cover waits in the dashboard with an Answer this button, and what you write becomes part of what Deacon knows. It can answer the next person who asks, so the more you answer, the less often you’re needed.

This is where Deacon earns its place on a launch page. Every conversation is saved and searchable by what visitors asked. Topics groups the questions, counts how many people asked and labels most of them, such as a feature ask, a pricing question or a how-to. Before you’ve built much, that’s a count of what people came looking for, in their own words. The same embed counts your visitors, where they came from and the goals they reach, on Analytics › Website. Carrd’s sections don’t count as separate pages, because Deacon counts a page view when the path or query string changes and ignores the part after #. To see who reaches a section, send a goal instead. On Pro Plus, put Deacon.track('Saw pricing') in a section break’s On Open event and Deacon.track('Joined waitlist') in your form’s On Success event, then build a funnel from the two. And to open the chat from a button of your own, set the button’s URL to browser:none and its On Click event to Deacon.open().

Every feature is on every plan, the free one included, and there’s no badge to pay to remove. Nothing is billed past your plan’s answers, and no plan upgrades itself. The pricing page has the paid plans.

Adding Deacon to Carrd

Deacon goes in through a hidden Embed on Pro Standard or above. The snippet it gives you looks like this, with your own key in place of the placeholder.

It takes a few minutes.

1. Sign up with your email or Google. The free plan needs no card.
2. On the Install page, add the address your site is published to. Your first domain creates your snippet, and it covers your address with or without www.
3. In Carrd, add an Embed, set Type to Code, paste the snippet, set Style to Hidden and choose Body End. Publish the site.
4. In Knowledge Sources, choose Add website and give Deacon your site’s address, then choose Just add this page. A Carrd site is one page, and Deacon starts answering from it as soon as it has been read.
5. A launch page leaves a lot unsaid. Use Add text for what you’d tell someone who emailed, such as your pricing detail, your launch date and your refund policy.
6. Ask it a question from each of your sections in the Playground, before anyone else sees it.

What to check after you publish

These four checks take a couple of minutes.

1. Open your published site in a private window and look for the chat button. The builder never shows it.
2. Open the chat, ask something, then click through to another section. The chat should still be open, with your question in it.
3. Look at the See it live card on the Install page. It says whether Deacon has been seen on your real domain, and Check again looks once more.
4. Ask one question your page answers and one it doesn’t. The first should get an answer, and the second an honest “I don’t know” with a box for an email address.

Questions about Carrd chatbots

Can I add a chatbot to a free Carrd site?

No. A chatbot needs an Embed, and Carrd’s embeds start on Pro Standard, at $19 a year. Pro Lite doesn’t include them either.

Does Carrd have a chat widget of its own?

No. Carrd’s Widget element covers Stripe, PayPal, Gumroad, Typeform and Facebook. Its forms can collect a message or an email address, but nothing answers your visitors in a chat.

Does the chat stay open when a visitor changes section?

Yes. Carrd’s sections are all on one page, so moving between them never reloads it, and Deacon’s chat stays as it was.

Will Deacon count each section as a page view?

No. Deacon counts a new page view when the path or query string changes, and a Carrd section only changes the part after #. Send a goal from a section break’s On Open event on Pro Plus if you want to count visits to a section.

What happens when Deacon’s free answers run out?

The chat keeps working. A visitor who asks gets a short reply saying Deacon can’t look into that one right now, and is asked for an email unless they’ve already left one in that conversation. You can still read and reply to every conversation, nothing is billed and your plan doesn’t upgrade itself.
